The grapplers of the UFC women's divisions
The grappler base groups the fighters who came to MMA from a grappling discipline: jiu-jitsu, judo, wrestling or sambo. In the women's divisions it is an especially common way in, partly because judo and Olympic wrestling have been established women's sports for decades.
That background produces very different profiles under the same label. An Olympic judoka and a world jiu-jitsu champion share a base and barely share any tools: one dominates the standing grip fight, the other the game on the ground.
What they do share is the ability to decide where the fight takes place, which is still the most important structural advantage in the sport.
