About Luana Pinheiro
Judo since age two, taken to the Octagon
Luana Pinheiro started practicing judo at the age of two, under the influence of her father, a teacher of the discipline. That training later became the foundation of her entire MMA career.
Fighting style
The Brazilian uses throws and takedowns from the clinch to take the fight to the mat, where she has several submissions. She also has enough punching power to be dangerous in short exchanges.
Rise and setback
Her first UFC stretch produced wins over Randa Markos, Sam Hughes and Michelle Waterson-Gomez. A long run of losses later stalled her progress, including defeats to Angela Hill, Gillian Robertson and Tecia Pennington, and forced her to rebuild a style that had worked especially well for years thanks to her judo.
