About Beatriz Mesquita
A jiu-jitsu legend begins to carry her dominance into MMA
Beatriz 'Bia' Mesquita came to MMA late, but she did so with one of the best grappling résumés any fighter has ever brought into the Octagon. The Brazilian was a ten-time jiu-jitsu world champion and an ADCC champion before starting her professional MMA career in 2024.
Fighting style
Her transition has been straightforward: Mesquita does not try to hide where she wants the fight to happen. She looks for takedowns, dominant positions and especially the back or the arms. The difference from many jiu-jitsu specialists is the technical depth of her game once she makes contact; small positional mistakes can instantly become a submission.
A fast rise
Mesquita arrived in the UFC still unbeaten and won her first three fights in the promotion by submission. In 2026 she finished Montserrat Rendon and Melissa Mullins in the first round. Her rise has been extraordinarily fast despite starting MMA at a much later age than most prospects.
