About Vitor Belfort
The 19-year-old phenom who opened an era
Vitor Belfort appeared in the UFC when MMA was still a long way from becoming the modern professional sport. At just 19 he stunned everyone with a combination of speed, power and aggression that seemed impossible for a fighter his size, winning the UFC 12 heavyweight tournament.
Fighting style
'The Phenom' developed one of the most recognizable boxing flurries of the sport's early generations. When he found the right distance he could throw straight punches in combination at enormous speed and end a fight in seconds. Over his career he adapted that arsenal to different eras, divisions and opponent styles.
A career of more than two decades
Belfort also won the light heavyweight championship and earned wins over figures like Wanderlei Silva, Randy Couture, Rich Franklin, Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold. His extraordinary longevity took him through more than two decades of competition against several generations of champions. In 2025 he was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as one of the sport's great pioneers.
