About Alistair Overeem
A life spent competing against giants
Alistair Overeem was one of the most experienced and complete heavyweights of his generation. His career spanned practically every major era of modern MMA, with appearances in PRIDE, Strikeforce, DREAM and the UFC, plus an extraordinary parallel career in kickboxing.
Fighting style
'The Reem' combined enormous physical power with a technical repertoire that was unusual for a heavyweight. His knees from the clinch were for years one of his most dangerous weapons, while his body kicks and straight punches reflected his kickboxing experience. In 2010 he even won the prestigious K-1 World Grand Prix.
His UFC run
Overeem debuted in the UFC by knocking out Brock Lesnar and years later got a shot at the championship against Stipe Miocic. He came close to finishing the champion after dropping him with a punch, but ended up being knocked out. He kept competing at a high level into a very advanced age, closing a career in which he faced several different generations of the world's best heavyweights.
