About Yan Xiaonan
Chinese speed in search of a second title shot
Yan Xiaonan was one of the first Chinese fighters to establish herself among the UFC elite for an extended period. Her speed, volume and ability to stay constantly on the move let her build a long career near the top of strawweight.
Fighting style
Yan is fundamentally a rhythm striker. She works especially well with straight punches, moves in and out of range quickly and forces opponents to chase her. Over her career she has had to improve her grappling defense considerably to survive in a division full of wrestlers and jiu-jitsu specialists.
Title shot and after
Wins over names like Cláudia Gadelha, Mackenzie Dern and Jéssica Andrade eventually earned her a shot at the championship against Zhang Weili at UFC 300. After that loss she worked her way back near the title picture, but her return in August 2026 ended badly: Denise Gomes stopped her by TKO in the first round in Shanghai.
