About Cynthia Calvillo
From a meteoric rise to a career marked by inconsistency
Cynthia Calvillo reached the UFC after just a few months as a professional and needed very little time to get on the strawweight radar. Her grappling, pressure and ease at taking the back immediately made her an important prospect.
Fighting style
In her early years she stood out especially for her jiu-jitsu. Three of her professional wins came by rear-naked choke, and her ability to link takedowns with back takes was her main weapon for a long time. She later tried to expand her striking and even moved up to flyweight.
Her UFC run
Her five-round win over Jessica Eye in 2020 put her close to a title shot, but she then went on a long run of losses to the best in the division. Her career became one of those cases where an extremely fast rise was followed by difficulty staying among the elite.
