About Raquel Pennington
Persistence all the way to the championship
Raquel Pennington is one of the best examples of longevity and perseverance in women's MMA. She reached the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter 18 and spent more than a decade facing practically every important generation at bantamweight.
Fighting style
'Rocky' builds her game on constant pressure, close-range boxing and a lot of clinch work. She does not usually depend on big finishes, but on wearing opponents down, making them fight physically against the cage and stacking enough small winning exchanges to prevail on the scorecards.
The long road to the title
After losing her first title shot to Amanda Nunes in 2018, Pennington slowly rebuilt her career. In 2024, more than ten years after her UFC debut, she beat Mayra Bueno Silva and finally won the bantamweight championship. She lost the belt by split decision to Julianna Peña, and a neck injury later derailed her planned return against Norma Dumont.
