About Jose Aldo
Featherweight's first great king
José Aldo was the first featherweight champion in UFC history, with the title carried over from his WEC reign, and he defended the belt seven consecutive times, a record that still stands in the division. He lost the title in era-defining fashion: a thirteen-second knockout by Conor McGregor in 2015, still the fastest finish in a title fight in the promotion's history.
Fighting style
With some of the best leg kicks the sport has produced and very technical boxing backed by his jiu-jitsu black belt, Aldo was for years featherweight's technical benchmark, able to break opponents down round by round with accumulated damage that was almost impossible to counter.
The close of a historic career
After briefly regaining the interim title when McGregor vacated it, Aldo went down to bantamweight, flirted with professional boxing and came back to MMA before retiring for good in 2025 after a loss to Aiemann Zahabi, receiving a farewell tribute at a UFC event in Rio de Janeiro. For much of the expert community, he is the greatest featherweight in the history of the sport.
