About Kenny Florian
Technique and adaptation across four divisions
Kenny Florian first came to the wider public's attention on the inaugural season of The Ultimate Fighter, where he competed as a middleweight even though his natural size was considerably smaller. That circumstance would shape part of his career: Florian moved through several divisions before finding the weights where he could really make the most of his qualities.
Fighting style
His style was one of the most technical of his generation. He had excellent Brazilian jiu-jitsu, but also developed very precise Muay Thai striking in which his elbows stood out in particular. Florian preferred to wear opponents down and build up advantages rather than depend on a single physical burst.
Three title shots
He fought for the lightweight championship against Sean Sherk and later against BJ Penn. Years later he dropped even further in weight and earned a third title shot, this time against José Aldo for the featherweight championship. Although he never won a UFC belt, he stayed among the elite of different divisions for years and later became one of the most recognizable voices in technical MMA analysis.
