About Dominick Cruz
The architect of modern movement at bantamweight
Dominick Cruz was the dominant figure at bantamweight during the transition from the WEC to the UFC. After winning the WEC championship, he became the first UFC bantamweight champion when the two organizations merged and established one of the most important reigns in the division's history.
Fighting style
Cruz's style was unmistakable. He constantly changed direction, stance and angle while using footwork that broke many traditional striking conventions. His goal was not simply to move, but to provoke reactions and attack while his opponent was trying to readjust. That mobility was also backed by excellent offensive and defensive wrestling.
The comeback and the Hall of Fame
Injuries took several years from his best stretch, but his comeback became part of his legacy. In 2016 he beat TJ Dillashaw by split decision and regained a championship he had never lost inside the Octagon. He finally announced his retirement in 2025, and in 2026 he was selected for the UFC Hall of Fame, cementing his place as one of the foundational figures in the technical evolution of bantamweight.
