About Demetrious Johnson
Technical perfection at flyweight
Demetrious 'Mighty Mouse' Johnson was the fighter around whom the UFC flyweight division was built. After first competing at bantamweight, he dropped to 125 pounds and became the division's first champion. From there he put together one of the most dominant reigns in the promotion's history, with eleven consecutive title defenses.
Fighting style
Johnson represented an extremely complete version of MMA. His speed let him chain striking, takedowns, scrambles and submissions with almost no pause between phases. Rather than standing out in a single discipline, his main virtue was the transition between them. He could shoot for a takedown after a combination, get straight back up from the bottom or turn a chaotic exchange into a submission opportunity.
Late career and the Hall of Fame
His reign ended against Henry Cejudo in 2018 in a close split decision. He then continued his career in ONE Championship, where he became champion again before retiring. In 2026 he was selected for the UFC Hall of Fame, an institutional close to a career that established him as the most important flyweight in MMA history.
