About TJ Dillashaw

Movement, angles and a bantamweight revolution

TJ Dillashaw was one of the fighters who helped transform bantamweight technically during the 2010s. He came to the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter and produced one of the biggest upsets in the division's history when he dominated and stopped Renan Barão to win the championship for the first time.

Fighting style

His striking stood out for constant footwork, stance switches and attacks from unorthodox angles. Dillashaw used feints and movement to force opponents to keep readjusting their position before he came in with combinations. To that mobility he added a solid wrestling base developed during his time as a college competitor.

Two reigns and the end of his career

He lost the belt in a close decision to Dominick Cruz, but later won it back by knocking out Cody Garbrandt and beat him again in the rematch. In 2019 he vacated the championship after testing positive for EPO and served a two-year suspension. He returned with a win over Cory Sandhagen, although physical problems marked the end of his career. His last fight came against Aljamain Sterling for the bantamweight title, after which he retired.
