About Brock Lesnar

From college wrestling to a title in four fights

Brock Lesnar had one of the strangest and fastest careers in UFC history. Before MMA he had been an NCAA wrestling champion and then a professional wrestling superstar. When he reached the UFC he had barely any competitive MMA experience, but he had an exceptional combination of size, strength, speed and wrestling.

Fighting style

Lesnar used those qualities to take opponents down and unleash devastating ground and pound from the top. His striking never reached the technical level of the rest of his game, but the constant threat of his leg attacks made trading with him extremely dangerous. In only his fourth professional fight he beat Randy Couture and became heavyweight champion.

The title and the illness

He then unified the championship by beating Frank Mir and survived an extremely difficult start against Shane Carwin before submitting him. Diverticulitis deeply affected the second half of his career, and he ended up losing to Cain Velasquez and Alistair Overeem. He returned at UFC 200 to face Mark Hunt, although his initial win was later overturned to a no contest. His brief career remains one of the most singular in MMA history.
