About Alexa Grasso
The Mexican who ended Shevchenko's reign
Alexa Grasso became one of the most important figures in Mexican MMA when she beat Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 285 to win the flyweight championship. She capitalized on a mistake by the champion to take her back and submit her in the fourth round, ending one of the longest reigns in women's MMA.
Fighting style
Grasso began her UFC career at strawweight, but her career took a considerable leap after moving up to 125 pounds. Her clean, technical boxing had always been her main strength, but along the way she especially improved her takedown defense, her grappling and her ability to stay competitive in extended exchanges. Her first rematch with Shevchenko ended in a draw, and the third fight saw the Kyrgyz fighter win the championship back.
A 2026 revival
After a difficult stretch, Grasso regained momentum in 2026. She knocked out Maycee Barber in the first round and then beat Manon Fiorot by unanimous decision at Noche UFC, applying much more aggressive pressure from the start than usual.
