About Nate Diaz
The unexpected winner who became an icon
Nate Diaz never won a UFC title, but few fighters have had as much cultural impact. His submission of Conor McGregor in March 2016, taking the fight on just eleven days' notice as a clear underdog, made him one of the biggest stars in the sport overnight, and his rematch with McGregor drew more than 1.6 million pay-per-view buys.
Fighting style
A volume southpaw with constant boxing and practically limitless cardio, Diaz can keep a high striking pace for three rounds while waiting for the moment to go for a submission, especially chokes, backed by his Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under Cesar Gracie.
Outside the UFC
After more than fifteen years in the promotion, Diaz chose not to renew his contract in 2022 and became a free agent. He has since competed in professional boxing and, in May 2026, returned to MMA outside the UFC, losing by doctor's stoppage in the second round to Mike Perry. Together with his brother Nick, he remains one of the most recognizable brands in modern MMA.
