About Tony Ferguson
Chaos turned into a fighting style
Tony Ferguson put together one of the biggest winning streaks UFC lightweight has ever seen. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter 13, 'El Cucuy' went from unpredictable prospect to elite contender by stringing together twelve straight wins in the division.
Fighting style
His style was practically impossible to reduce to a single discipline. Ferguson combined pressure, elbows, strikes from strange angles, D'Arce chokes, scrambles and exceptional cardio. He was comfortable turning fights into chaotic situations where his creativity and endurance could end up overwhelming his opponent.
The interim title and the fall
In 2017 he submitted Kevin Lee to win the interim lightweight championship. His long-awaited fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov was booked repeatedly but never happened. His loss to Justin Gaethje in 2020 marked the start of a long decline, but the stretch before it remains one of the best runs in the history of 155 pounds.
