About Lauren Murphy
A long career that ended in a title fight
Lauren Murphy built one of the most persistent careers in women's MMA. Before reaching the UFC she was Invicta FC bantamweight champion, and after debuting in the promotion in 2014 she had to rebuild her career several times before finding at flyweight the division that would take her to a championship fight.
Fighting style
Murphy never stood out for great explosiveness. Her game relied on pressure, clinch work and an enormous ability to sustain the pace in long, physically uncomfortable fights. That profile let her beat more technically gifted opponents simply by sustaining a level of demand very few could match for fifteen minutes.
The title shot
She won five fights in a row, including wins over Roxanne Modafferi, Liliya Shakirova and Joanne Wood, to earn a title shot against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 266. She later also beat Miesha Tate, one of the most celebrated wins of the final stage of her career.
