About Glover Teixeira
The champion who refused to fade away
Glover Teixeira's career is one of the great examples of longevity in the UFC. The Brazilian reached the promotion relatively late because of visa problems, but quickly established himself among the best light heavyweights and first fought for the championship against Jon Jones in 2014.
Fighting style
Teixeira combined very heavy punching with excellent Brazilian jiu-jitsu. Although he was dangerous trading strikes, many of his best performances came when he could pressure his opponent, find the takedown and advance to dominant positions. From the back or mount he had a particularly effective arsenal of chokes.
The title and his time as a coach
After several ups and downs, and just when it seemed his chance to become champion had passed, he began an extraordinary run late in his career. In 2021 he submitted Jan Błachowicz and finally won the light heavyweight belt at over 40 years of age. He lost it in a dramatic fight against Jiří Procházka and made one last attempt against Jamahal Hill before announcing his retirement. He has since stayed involved in the sport as a coach and a central figure in Alex Pereira's team.
