About Forrest Griffin
The fighter who helped change UFC history
Forrest Griffin holds a special place in UFC history even beyond his results. In 2005 he won the first season of The Ultimate Fighter after facing Stephan Bonnar in a fight often considered one of the decisive moments in the popularization of MMA in the United States.
Fighting style
Griffin never built his success around a single extraordinary quality. His strengths were pace, endurance and the ability to stay competitive in chaotic fights. He threw a high volume of strikes, worked well with kicks and accepted long exchanges that could wear opponents down mentally and physically.
The championship and the Hall of Fame
Three years after The Ultimate Fighter he reached the peak of his career by beating Quinton Jackson by decision to become light heavyweight champion. He lost the belt to Rashad Evans, but kept facing the elite until he retired in 2013. That same year he was inducted into the Hall of Fame, and his fight with Bonnar later entered the Fight Wing as well.
