About Eddie Alvarez
The king of wars who conquered Bellator and the UFC
Eddie Alvarez came to the UFC after spending years building a reputation as one of the best lightweights outside the promotion. A two-time Bellator champion and a veteran of multiple international promotions, he arrived in the Octagon with far more competitive experience than a typical newcomer.
Fighting style
'The Underground King' combined aggressive boxing, wrestling and a huge willingness to compete in chaotic exchanges. Many of his best fights were wars in which he could take serious damage and keep moving forward. That ability to turn a technical fight into a physical battle was a constant throughout his career.
The UFC championship
After beating Gilbert Melendez and Anthony Pettis, Alvarez got his big opportunity against Rafael dos Anjos. In July 2016 he stopped him in the first round to become UFC champion. He lost the belt to Conor McGregor, but later had memorable fights with Justin Gaethje and Dustin Poirier before continuing his career in ONE Championship.
